Life-sized headless horseman

Greet trick-or-treaters with a life-sized headless horseman greeter on your front porch! Create a headless horseman figurine as part of a family project. Or if you’re more adventurous, purchase a headless horseman costume, stand very still outside your front door and only move as visitors approach.

Jack-o’-lantern topiary

Decorate your porch with a DIY jack-o’-lantern topiary! Grab three orange carvable foam pumpkins. Draw faces onto the pumpkins and carve them out with a sharp knife. Stack the pumpkins one on top of the other onto a long handle (such as a broom handle), and stick into a planter. Light up your spooky creation with Christmas lights (click here for a full tutorial on how to create a jack-o’-lantern topiary).

Trash bag spider webs

Use a free DIY template to create spooky spider webs out of black garbage bags! Hang them on your windows, walls, or wrap them around your staircase. Or if you’re feeling more adventurous, make your house look like a creepy abandoned cabin with a 16×15 ft triangular spider web attached to your home (complete with a giant 79” fake spider)!

Spider web doormat

Greet trick-or-treaters with a (non-slip) spider web doormat, or create your own using a semi-circle doormat and white fabric paint.

Halloween candy wreaths

These wreaths are pretty, easy to make, and adorned with delicious-looking candy! Wrap a foam wreath with orange and black ribbons (any autumn tones would work), and attach an assortment of (real or fake) candies to it with a glue gun. Halloween paper lanterns

At your next Halloween bash, swap the candles with DIY light-up paper lanterns. Place them on your mantels, hang them from your ceilings, or adorn your front porch. To make them extra spooky, cover them in fake spiders and bugs.

Mummy pumpkin

Not in the mood to carve your pumpkin? Grab a pair of googly eyes and slap it onto a pumpkin. Carefully cover the rest of the pumpkin with glue and wrap with white gauze or toilet paper (click here for a full tutorial).

Pumpkin candy dispenser

Cut out a large hole into a pumpkin, scoop out the pulp and seeds, and place a bowl of candy inside for a DIY pumpkin-themed candy dispense (full tutorial here). If you don’t have a pumpkin, use a box.
