Here’s a list of 10 fun and exciting things to do this week in and around the Edmonton area.

Just to the west of Edmonton, the City of Spruce Grove hosts free, family-friendly performances by local artists in their surrounding parks every Tuesday of the summer.

Each performance is different, with this week featuring the Juno-nominated Sean Pinchin, one of the country’s most unique and original slide guitar players.

Take advantage of the warm summer weather and listen to live Jazz music in an Edmonton alley. Edmonton Jazz Alley offers amazing shows, accompanied by beer, wine, bratwurst, and tasty snacks.

Funk the Matriarchy will be performing this Thursday, with the high-energy seven-piece band highlighting everything wonderful about funk, soul, and jazz.

This debut series from Prelude, Summer Vacations, reveals new themes each week for its rotating cocktails and tapas-style menu. Take a sip from carefully crafted drinks, savour the thoughtful pairings and playful bites, and have the whole experience of summer indulgence.

Its theme for this week is Golden Hour, inspired by European Tradition.

The Edmonton International Fringe Festival starts this week, and we couldn’t be more excited.

For 11 days this August, guests are invited to watch and enjoy live theatre, outdoor performances, take a bite and sip some drinks on the festival grounds, and truly embrace the rich and diverse arts and theatre scene the city has created.

Within the Town of Stony Plain, they continue the tradition of storytellers sharing stories around the campfire. At this free event, people come from an array of cultural backgrounds to share their stories, listen to others, and learn more.

This Thursday, the focus will be on German Heritage.

Every so often, the Telus World of Science will hold its dazzling Summer Laser Shows. While sitting in the Zeidler Dome, your eyes will feast upon the beauty of the light show created in-house. Some of the featured themes upcoming are Laser Taylor Swift, Laser ABBA, and Laser Pink Floyd.

The Edmonton Elk’s Country Night features the 3rd annual EE Bull Riding Competition, ongoing country music hoedowns, and family-friendly fun with a petting zoo and pony rides for the tiny folks. This fan-favourite themed game will have the Elks face off against the Toronto Argonauts, but the focus will be on celebrating all things western.

This exclusive after-hours look at the Muttart is for 18-year-olds and above, creating a sophisticated ambience. Guests are invited to roam around the Muttart and take a look at its featured pyramids while being offered a tasting experience featuring the exceptional brews of Sea Change Brewing Co.

Tickets to this event include two drink tickets for beer, booze, soda, or a non-alcoholic option, as well as light canapés.

Afro Music Fest is not just about music; it’s Edmonton’s signature celebration of Afro-Caribbean food, culture, and community. In downtown Edmonton, the festival features a free jam day and evening concerts.

Headlining Afro Music Fest this year is global superstar and Nigerian-American singer-songwriter, Davido.

The Edmonton Dragon Festival is a premier cultural and sporting event which focuses on celebrating the rich traditions of dragon boating, lion dancing, and Asian heritage in the heart of Edmonton. This year, the festival will kick off on Friday with its vibrant opening ceremony.
