If you’re planning to drive through downtown Montreal this weekend, you might want to rethink your route.
According to the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTQ), two of the city’s major passageways will be off limits for over 48 hours.
The Ville-Marie and Viger tunnels will be closed from Friday, February 28, at 11 p.m. until Monday, March 3, at 5 a.m. An MTQ press release says the closures are part of the reconstruction of the Saint-Urbain overpass, with crews installing the first section of the steel framework.
During this time, Route 136 will be off-limits between Panet Street and the Lucien-L’Allier entrance, with traffic rerouted to Viger Avenue and Saint-Antoine Street. Drivers heading east should also be aware that the highway will be shut down from Exit 4 (Victoria Bridge/Boul. R.-Bourassa/Rue de la Montagne) to the Atateken Street entrance from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Access ramps will start closing 30 to 60 minutes before the full highway shutdown.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Saint-Laurent Boulevard overpass will also be closed between Viger Avenue and Saint-Antoine Street from Saturday, March 1, at 10 p.m. to Sunday, March 2, at 10 a.m. Detours will be in place via Saint-Antoine, Saint-Hubert, Viger, and Bleury (near Chinatown).
While it’s nowhere near what we got earlier this month, Montreal will also be hit with a healthy dose of snow over the weekend, potentially slowing down traffic even more.
With all that said, it’s safe to assume you can expect some major delays.
