Just in time for The Fast and the Furious franchise’s 25th anniversary, Universal Studios Hollywood has been given the green light to open its first high-speed outdoor coaster.
As summer comes to an end, the Hollywood sunset skyline at Universal Studios gets a street-race makeover for fans of the films starring Vin Diesel, the late Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster, who originated their roles in the first installment back in 2001. Since then, Universal Studios has released 11 films in the Fast Saga, including spin-offs starring ensemble members Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham. This ride marks the second attraction inspired by the films on the West Coast, having previously been featured as a simulated high-speed segment on the world-famous studio tour, but now the thrills get real.
When it opens on September 16, 2026, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift promises to hit the NOS to launch its ride vehicles across a 4,100 ft track at 72 miles per hour. And yes, we mean vehicles. Fast Saga fans will recognize Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Charger (for one), the Mazda RX-7, a Nissan Skyline GT-R, and a Toyota Supra, inspired by the cars seen in the film franchise.
The LA race vibes on the coaster will not just pay homage to the aesthetic of the city’s car culture but will also aim to match the high-octane stakes the fast family experiences on four launches, an inverted dive loop, a pretzel loop, and an inverted stall, and will feature 360° drift rotation on each car.

There’s plenty of fun to have on the West Coast theme park’s first outdoor high-speed coaster. The ride joins the likes of Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge at Super Nintendo World and Jurassic World: The Ride. An all-new film in the saga, Fast Forever, will race into theatres in March 2028.
