My first grocery Mastercard in Canada was with Presidents Choice Financial when I arrived from the UK as a permanent resident in 2007.

Initially, we applied for the PC Mastercard so I could gain credit and help us build our PC Optimum Points to get free groceries fast.

We upgraded our credit card rewards game to the PC World Elite Mastercard years later.

For anyone who already has an existing PC, Express Pass, and is approved for the credit card, the account will be canceled, and you will get a refund of the unused portion.

With Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Waiver insurance, you get up to 31 consecutive days of coverage in case your rental car is damaged or stolen when you rent the vehicle in your name, charge the full rental cost to your PC^® World Elite Mastercard^® and say no to the rental agency’s insurance. For insurance claims, your PC^® World Elite Mastercard^® account must be in good standing at time of occurrence and claim.

Cons PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard

• Yearly $120 fee. This fee will be the deciding factor for anyone who wants to upgrade or apply for this credit card.
• The average Loblaw shopper might break if they shop exclusively under the corporate umbrella + use PC Express, Joe Fresh, and petrol.

Who Can Apply For The PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard

Current PC credit card holders may be invited via their online banking account to apply for the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard.

You can apply for the newest credit card online if you don’t have a current PC Mastercard.

You must have a personal income of at least $80,000 yearly or a combined household income of $150,000 before taxes to apply.

Remember, you must still pass credit approval and meet other criteria if you qualify.

Is The PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard Right For Us?

We’re not huge fans of paying an annual fee for a credit card unless we know there will be a benefit.

Earning extra points is excellent because you can redeem them for free.

However, we buy our petrol at Costco using their Mastercard, and there’s no way we could justify the yearly fee just for buying groceries.

The biggest reason is that we don’t exclusively shop at Zehrs in our city, and it takes us longer to earn points.

I’d say 75% of our PC Optimum points come from 20x points days at Shoppers Drug Mart, 15% from No Frills & Zehrs, and 10% from other stores.

We would earn the yearly fee back exclusively by shopping 20x points days at Shoppers Drug Mart, but we are still unconvinced.

Unless we partake in the PC Express Pass program, the perks aren’t enough to motivate us to upgrade.

Who Would Benefit From The PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard?

The primary perk of this credit card is the PC Express Pass, which is fantastic for current Insiders subscribers or anyone who uses this service.

Since we enjoy searching for in-store deals, delivery or pickup would not benefit us.

For anyone wondering whether the upgrade would affect your credit score, it will not.

If you are new to PC Mastercard and apply, the typical credit history process will occur.

Lastly, the travel insurance offered for the new credit card is already provided with our PC World Elite Mastercard.

Besides, my work offers travel insurance through our benefits company.

However, this may be a perk worth considering for someone who does not have the benefit.

Under the age of 65? Enjoy included Travel Emergency Medical Insurance for the first 10 consecutive days of a trip.

Subject to limitations and exclusions, covers up to $1,000,000 in out‑of‑province emergency hospital accommodation and medical expenses, doctor charges, private duty nursing, ambulance services, emergency air transport, prescription drug reimbursement, accidental dental care, medical appliances, return airfare, transportation to bedside, vehicle return and return of deceased.

For insurance claims, your PC^® World Elite Mastercard^® account must be in good standing at time of occurrence and claim.

Overall, if you invest in a credit card with an annual fee, ensure that it’s one you plan to stick with for an extended period.
