2025 Travel Trends: Adventure, Family Time, and Sustainability Take Center Stage

  • According to a survey by leading travel technology company Sabre, 2025 travelers are prioritizing multiple trips, adventure experiences, and quality time with extended family.
  • Sustainability is becoming a more significant consideration for travelers, particularly when they are informed about their potential carbon footprint.

According to a global sentiment survey conducted by leading travel technology innovator Sabre, the travel industry is witnessing a shift in trends in 2025. The survey reveals that most respondents plan to take at least two vacations in 2025, a 6% increase from 2024. Additionally, nearly a quarter of survey respondents plan to embark on four or more trips, an increase from the previous year. This suggests prioritizing global travel, with Sabre’s global travel insights confirming this trend.

Asia Pacific travelers are leading the way in 2025 travel plans, showing a 34% increase in bookings for the year. This growth may be driven by lower airfares in the region, increased air capacity, and a growing middle class in key markets such as India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

With increased travel activity, household travel budgets are expected to rise. Over 90% of travelers surveyed are spending the same or more on travel compared to 2024, with Baby Boomers being the generation most likely to increase their travel budget.

Adventure travel is gaining traction among travelers, with nearly 30% prioritizing outdoor pursuits and sports while on vacation. This trend is particularly strong among Gen Z, with 73% citing sports and outdoor activities as their preferred vacation activity.

In addition to adventure, food experiences are playing a central role in the travel experience for 2025. This aligns with research from the IMARC Group, which forecasts the booming culinary tourism market to reach $4.2bn by 2033.

Interestingly, airline quality has emerged as a key factor for younger travelers, with nearly 10% of Gen Z respondents identifying the quality of the airline as a key factor in their decision-making.

Booking ease is another important factor for travelers, particularly those from Gen X and Gen Y. These travelers value the convenience and structure provided by tour packages.

The survey also reveals that most travelers like to plan their trips, with 52% of respondents purchasing flight tickets three to six months before departure – a 14% increase compared to 2024.

Traveling with extended family is a growing trend, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and North America. Other industry research mirrors this trend, which is also reflected in Sabre’s global booking data, which shows a year-on-year increase in multi-person bookings.

Finally, sustainability plays an increasingly important role in travelers’ decisions, especially when providing clear information. When presented with data on lower-emission options, 54% of respondents said they considered carbon emissions in their decision-making.

As travelers embrace more journeys, allocate bigger budgets, and approach the rest of 2025 with increased confidence, the focus on meaningful experiences, quality family time, and sustainability continues to grow. The travel industry needs to respond to these evolving trends and provide the seamless experiences travelers seek, ensuring their trips are as fulfilling and memorable as possible.
