Larian Studios has released more info on the in-game behaviors of Baldur’s Gate 3 players, and the data is as funny as it is fascinating.
According to the studio — which shared the data on social media via a series of infographics — players have downloaded 265 million mods since official mod support was introduced to the game last year. One of the mods Larian specifically highlighted is called “Withers Big Naturals,” and it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Created by AtoZLightfoot Studios, the mod gives the normally bony-chested Withers a voluptuous (but still very much desiccated-looking) figure, and apparently 250,000 of you have downloaded it.
“The mod itself was just something I cooked up late one night after joking with friends about it,” mod creator Adam Lightfoot told Polygon via email. “It’s honestly taken me by surprise how popular it’s become!”
Lightfoot (who is a software developer by trade) says he spent about a week sitting on the idea before creating the mod “over the course of a couple of late nights.”
“I had never done any real 3D modeling before, or any mod creation at that point, so it was all new to me,” Lightfoot explained.”My husband has a joke that I have an idea, tell myself it would be too difficult to accomplish, and then spend all night figuring it out.”
According to Lightfoot, the project was a bit of a challenge initially, but things got easier when mod support was officially introduced to the game.
“The new modding tool they have now is so much more streamlined than the old process,” he said.
Lightfoot says he uses his Big Naturals Withers mouspad regularly.
Mods aren’t Lightfoot’s only creative endeavor, however. He also designed a 3D “Withers Big Naturals” mousepad, which he says he uses daily.
When asked if he personally plays with the mod on, Lightfoot told Polygon that there’s simply no other way to play.
“I have always preferred playing games modded to hell and back,” he explained. “I have dozens of mods that are on my current playthroughs. That said, I honestly feel like it’s unplayable without it. It’s like a jumpscare when I see his bony-chested form almost, I’m so used to seeing him so well-endowed.”
“In my mind, they might as well be canon,” Lightfoot added. “They belong there.”
