$3.6M in meth seized from commercial vehicle at Coutts border crossing: RCMP

A man charged with trafficking, importing and possessing drugs in a mass seizure at Calgary’s Coutts border is due to appear in court on Thursday.
On February 19, border patrols said they had found and seized about 300 kilograms of methamphetamine from boxes in the back of a commercial transport vehicle.
The wholesale price for these drugs is about $3.6 million, according to the RCMP.

“This serious methamphetamine seizure is one of the agency’s largest in the last five years and a good example of the agency’s determination to keep dangerous drugs out of our communities,” said Canada Border Services Agency. Director Benjamin Thame said.

After investigation by the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET), RCMP, CBSA and Calgary Police Service (CPS), he was indicted under the Controlled Substances and Substances Act and the Customs Act.

Calgary resident Paramjit Laroyia, 49, was charged on February 20 with human trafficking, importation of controlled substances, and possession of controlled substances intended for smuggling into Canada.
Laroyia is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge District Court on Thursday.

On February 19, 2023, CBSA officials found and seized approximately 300 kg of methamphetamine after conducting a secondary inspection of a commercial transport vehicle at the Coutts border crossing.
