Kirk Medas, who reality TV fans may recognize from the MTV series Floribama Shore, is fighting for his live in an intensive care unit, according to his close friend and co-star Nilsa Prowant.
Prowant took to social media on Thursday, May 1, to inform her followers of Medas’ condition, revealing that she’d recently been to visit him in the hospital in Miami, where he is currently on a ventilator in the ICU as he fights necrotizing pancreatitis.
His family anticipates “a long road to recovery” after two weeks in the ICU, and Prowant shared a link to their GoFundMe account, which aims to raise $100,000 to help with his medical and rehabilitation costs, given that he doesn’t have health insurance.
“Please continue to uplift Kirk in your prayers,” they added. At the time of writing, nearly $16,000 had been raised, and fans flooded Prowant’s comments with prayers for her friend.
“Wishing a speedy recovery for him 😔,” one wrote.
“Oh no. Sending prayers and love to his family and friends 🙏 💜,” said another.
“Keeping Kirk in my prayers and thank you for sharing this with us,” somebody else wrote, in part, while a fourth praised Prowant for being “such a great extended family member to him.”
“Sending lots of love to all of you. Prayers for Kirk🩵,” another said.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, necrotizing pancreatitis occurs when inflammation in the pancreas becomes so severe it causes tissue to begin to die, which can lead to dangerous infections. The initial inflammation can be caused by injury or toxins. In Medas’ case, his family has chosen to keep details about his condition private.
