The first day of summer has arrived, and our calendar is about to get a whole lot of action. From festivals and weddings to camping trips and BBQs, there will be no shortage of things to do this season, but it’s important to stop and smell the flowers from time to time.

Luckily, there are a ton of gardens where that’s made easy!

Located just outside of Okotoks, Parkland Peonies is a colourful paradise where the birds, the bees, and all fun-seekers alike will be buzzing.

What to expect

In bloom since 2016, this Alberta farm is not one to be missed by those with an empty vase and an active Instagram account.

Here, visitors can shop for bulbs, roots, and fresh-cut flowers, before or after wandering through rows and rows of magic.

“As of today, our assortment contains over 750 Peony varieties and 60+ Martagon Lily varieties. Some of them are older varieties, and some are the most recent on the market,” they write on their website.

“We want to bring the best and most versatile array of Peony colours, sizes and shapes to our customers’ gardens, and we’d love you to enjoy our peony selection as much as we do.”

What to know before you visit

Want to check it out? Now is the time to do so!

From June 13 to June 29, the garden is hosting an event they call the Concert of Colours, a blooming bonanza with endless photo ops and u-pick opportunities.

Tickets cost $10 and include admission, access to the fields, and face time with a peony pro.

For an additional $30, you can also pick your own six-stem bouquet.

The downside? While it’s all outdoors, pets are not permitted, so leave your furry friend at home!

If you’d like to secure your spot, head to their website and snag yours now.

Get out there and enjoy.

Maybe we’ll even see you around. There’s nothing quite like it, after all!
