If your weekend plans have been feeling a little too repetitive lately, this might be your sign to switch things up. The Royal Canadian Circus is returning near Calgary this spring with its all-new 2026 production, bringing flying trapeze artists, high-wire acts, and full big-top energy to CrossIron Mills.

The show mixes classic circus acts with a more modern production style, making it just as entertaining for adults as for kids.

What to expect under the big top

The 2026 Royal Canadian Circus will run from May 22 to 31, and is designed as a full 360-degree experience, meaning there really is no bad seat in the house.

Throughout the experience, guests can expect a nonstop lineup of performances, including hula-hoop performances, elite unicycle acts, trapeze artists, and more.

Of course, no circus performance would be complete without classic clown acts and a charismatic ringmaster leading the show from start to finish.

According to the Royal Canadian Circus, the goal is to combine the classic elements of a traditional circus with newer, high-energy acts and larger-scale stunt performances. This created a show that feels familiar for people who grew up going to the circus, while still feeling exciting and fresh for a new generation of families.

Plan your visit

If you’re planning to check it out, the circus will take place at CrossIron Mills, making it an easy day trip just outside the city with plenty of parking and easy access for families.

Weekday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday shows will run at noon, 4, and 7:30 p.m. Sunday performances are scheduled for 1 and 5 p.m., with each show running for approximately two hours.

The event is open to all ages, and children ages three and under can attend for free when seated on an adult’s lap. Additionally, the venue is wheelchair-accessible, making it a convenient option for a full family outing.

Doors will open 30 to 45 minutes before each performance, and seating is first-come, first-served, so arriving early is definitely the move, especially for the weekend shows when crowds tend to build faster.

This is one of those events that doesn’t come around all that often in Calgary; it has the perfect mix of nostalgia and excitement, making it easy to enjoy. One of the best parts is that it’s accessible for everyone, making it a flexible option for families, groups, or anyone looking to add something a little different to their spring plans.
