Any episode of The Amazing Race 37 would be tough to top last week’s, which saw cars stuck in the mud, U-Turns being used, and one of the most epic comebacks in recent memory. And so, as the teams continued through Bulgaria, it paled in comparison. But it was still a taxing day for the six remaining teams, as they had to navigate a brain-bending cipher, a complicated dance and, for one duo, a crucial error that officially ended their chances at the million-dollar prize.

Melinda Papadeas and Erika Papadeas – Mother and daughter

Only a few legs into the race, Melinda and Erika seemed to be the last of their breed. Not only had all of the all-women teams been booted from the race, but despite having the oldest average aged cast in Amazing Race history, many of the ones on the older end of the spectrum were getting the boot. But the mother/daughter duo survived leg after leg due to being underestimated, their “slow and steady” approach and even the occasional cutthroat move (most notably when they U-Turned Nick and Mike, which sealed their fate). Going into Leg 8, Erika talked up the biggest skill she learned throughout the process: Reading the clue. The pure irony, of course, is that she would soon make a devastating misread, believing they could only take taxis for the rest of the leg, when they were specifically told not to. After an afternoon of getting stumped by a library cipher, that misread was the nail in their coffin, eliminating them from the race.

Which teams finished at the top of The Amazing Race 37 Week 8 tonight?

Upon starting the leg, Brett Hamby and Mark Romain immediately disregarded the chance at an Express Pass for a first-place finish. And it was a gamble that ultimately proved successful, as the married Vegas performers struck out to a lead that they never relinquished, using their skills to dance into another victory. Alyssa and Josiah Bordendid choose to go for the Express Pass, walking across hot coals to earn the chance to skip a task in the next two legs. And Jonathan and AnaTowns once again finished third, as Jonathan said their fate from the previous leg cost them a shot at both first place and the Express Pass.

Which teams finished at the bottom of The Amazing Race 37 Week 6 tonight?

After their incredible comeback last leg, there was still a lot of work for Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge to do. But perhaps powered by the “spirit of delusion,” the best friends were able to catch up to the back of the pack, even passing a couple of teams to wind up in fourth. Meanwhile, Han and Holden Nguyen faced a bit of a backslide, as their bickering and rash decisions had them falling to second-to-last.
