Leamington, Ont., is only four and a half hours from Toronto and within the small town, is the most southern mainland point in the whole country. The park is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to dusk. While there are over 11 km of trails to explore, the Tip Trail is the one that will lead you to the point. Spanning just 1 km, the walk is short and sweet. One of the coolest parts is that, just as the name suggests, the land comes to an actual point that anyone is welcome to walk right up to.
One of the other popular trails in Point Pelee National Park is the Woodland Nature Trail. This almost three-kilometre loop winds through the oldest forest habitat in the park, which is particularly beautiful when there’s a fresh blanket of snow covering everything.
Another cool feature at Point Pelee? The park is a Dark Sky Preserve. What does that mean? According to Parks Canada, “It means that the park is one of the best places to explore the night sky in Canada.” If you head over on a clear evening, millions of stars are visible, and there are even designated nights when Point Pelee National Park stays open until midnight so that stargazers can get the best view possible.

To end your day, head down to Seacliff Park to see the sunset over Lake Erie. The park connects to Seacliff Beach, and as long as you’re dressed accordingly, finishing your day cozied up to see the sun go down here can be enjoyed any time of the year.
