The Toronto weather forecast is looking extremely wet, with a rainfall warning issued for the city and surrounding areas.
50 millimetres of rain is forecasted to hit the area on Tuesday and through until Wednesday, brining a risk of thunderstorms as well as a risk of flooding. The heavy showers are expected to start Tuesday afternoon or evening, and then taper off up until Wednesday morning.
The weather alert said that “showers are expected to push into the region through the afternoon as a moisture laden system moves into the Great Lakes Basin. The showers are expected to become more widespread and heavy at times tonight along with the risk for thunderstorms as a more unstable air mass moves in.”
The rainfall should get less intense by the morning, but overall some areas might get “in excess of 50 mm” although Environment Canada does say there “still remains a high degree of uncertainty.”
The alert also said that heavy rainfall does have the potential to cause flash floods and water pooling on the roads, and said that “localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”
