No Rest for the Wicked, an explosively gory and devastating precision action RPG from the creators behind Ori and the Blind Forest, is blowing up on Steam, overtaking even popular games such as Arc Riders.

Developed by Moon Studios, No Rest for the Wicked put a tentative first foot forward when it launched in early access in April. 18, 2024. While it received a positive reception at launch, with the peak number of players hovering around the 36,000 mark, No Rest for the Wicked’s latest update, adding multiplayer co-op, launched on Jan. 22 and has caused the number of players of concurrent players to shoot up to nearly 63,000.

The new wave of players hasn’t gone unnoticed. Thomas Mahler, the CEO and creative director behind No Rest for the Wicked, recently posted on the social media platform X that the game is selling around 50,000 copies per day, with a peak of 72,000 on Jan. 26. No doubt, this success has been helped by the addition of multiplayer, as well as the 40% discount accompanying the update, that’s currently on offer.

In No Rest for the Wicked, players are thrust into a plague-ridden and war-torn world. As Cerim, a holy warrior, players are tasked with defeating the plague and preventing the spread of pestilence — at any cost. However, each dungeon and forest holds new enemies and challenges that, thanks to the addition of co-op, you no longer have to face alone. This new feature allows players not just to slay together, but also to fish, craft, forage, trade, and build a community. And the best thing about it? You can do all that without having to worry about microtransactions and how they will affect gameplay.

No Rest for the Wicked is currently only available in early access on PC via Steam and Steam Deck, with plans to come to platforms like PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime in the future. While there is no confirmed release date for its pivot from early access, speculation suggests the game’s 1.0 launch will occur sometime in late 2026.
