Lots of us have preferences when it comes to who we fly with – is it the most wallet-friendly airline, or the one with the best food? Does it have a reputation for efficiency, or lots of legroom? What matters most is down to the traveller.

But if you’re keen to find out which airlines offer the best overall experience, the readers of travel pub CN Traveller have voted for their faves as part of the Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Awards. So which airline flew above the rest in the best airlines in the world category?

Jetting ahead into first place was Air New Zealand, which copped an overall satisfaction score of 89.08 percent. Not bad, right?

In second place it was Singapore Airlines, which scored 88.47 percent, and in third place it was Qatar Airways, with 87.11 percent. In fact, both these carriers also appeared in Travel + Leisure and the World Airline Awards top 10 roundups earlier this year – sounds pretty reliable to us!

These are the 12 best airlines in the world
