Do you fancy yourself as a bit of an armour-donning, sword-wielding, Paul Mescal type? Judging by that lookalike contest in Dublin last week, plenty of us do. So to lean into that fantasy even more, we’ve got just the thing.
Airbnb has just announced a brand-new addition to its ‘icons’, which is a collection of outstanding and (you guessed it) iconic experiences from all over the world, and just in time for the release of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, this one is set in the actual Colosseum.
Yes, you read that right. We should first make it clear that what you’ll be booking is not a stay – even though it is through Airbnb – so sadly, no sleeping over amidst the Rome’s world-famous ruins.
However, what you will be getting up to is pretty darn cool. As part of the experience, guests will be greeted by someone called the ‘master of ceremonies’ who will lead them through the Colosseum’s portal.
Next: you prepare for battle. Guests will choose their gladiator type, don their armour and, after weaving through the torch-lit passageways of the arena, test their courage in an actual (very safe) showdown. Sounds like a laugh, eh?
Here are some snaps of the experience:
Feeling brave? You’ll be able to request a booking for the experience here between 6am PT (3pm CET) on November 27 and 11.59pm PT December 9 (8.59am December 10 CET), but you get set up notifications now! Travel to Rome is not included.
