Alberta Ballet’s latest show is like stepping into the pages of a fairy tale.
Packed with classical ballet, theatrical storytelling and a breathtaking musical score, if you’re a fan of children’s classics like Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Swan Lake, this show is for you.
In Once Upon a Time – A Thousand Tales, fairy tales meander across the stage as the top-notch ballerinas of Alberta Ballet breathe new life into older characters.
Created by Alberta Ballet’s Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia, this production premiered as A Thousand Tales in 2023 on the Dubai Opera stage. It’ll tour through Calgary and Edmonton at the twin Northern Alberta and Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditoriums from Sept. 11 to 20.
Step into an enchanted storybook world
Iconic stories like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Swan Lake, and Aladdin are blended into a spellbinding narrative by choreography inspired by classical ballet and theatre.
Exquisite sets by Roberta Guidi Di Bagno and equally colourful costume design sew the vision together, crafting worlds designed to enchant and enthrall.
Dancers will perform to a beautiful musical score composed by Alexey Shor, making this production a true feast for the senses.
Performances across Alberta
Alberta Ballet will embark on a handful of performance nights across the Northern and Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditoriums, located in Calgary and Edmonton.
Dancers will jeté into Calgary first, performing for two nights and a matinee performance Sept. 11, 12 and 13 before chasséing to Edmonton for an evening and matinee show on Sept. 19 and 20.
That means Albertans will have multiple opportunities to see their fairytale stories of their childhood brought to life through professional dance.
The preview for Alberta Ballet’s Once Upon a Time – A Thousand Tales describes how the ballet is, “led by the White Rabbit, with each scene opening the door to another beloved tale, creating a seamless adventure bursting with imagination.”
So pack your glass slippers, and don’t be late! The White Rabbit is ready to lead you down the rabbit hole and into a wonderland full of familiar fairy tales with Alberta Ballet.
