Ever since we first saw Ambrosia Sky at Summer Game Fest back in June, we’ve been eager to see more. Indie developer Soft Rains announced Wednesday that you can get in on the space-cleaning action in less than a month on Nov. 10. However, the sci-fi FPS is taking an unconventional approach to its release.

Come November, you’ll only get to play the first act of the game. Ambrosia Sky is now an episodic title, releasing in three “acts,” per a press release from Soft Rains. Of course, that raises the question: When are Act Two and Act Three coming out? At this point, the all we know is sometime next year.

When asked about the decision to shift to an episodic format, the devs told Polygon, “The Soft Rains team is thrilled to be nearing the release of Ambrosia Sky. We felt this best fits the game’s unique narrative structure, the needs of our small production team, and our self-publishing goals. With Act One, players can experience a fully-realized first chapter that is feature complete and uncompromised in both story and gameplay. It’s our way of offering a meaningful slice of what’s ahead, and we’re eager to share a roadmap soon to outline what’s planned for 2026.”

Fitting the needs of the game’s small production team and self-publishing goals could mean a couple of different things. Soft Rains may simply need more time to complete Acts Two and Three. At the same time, a little financial boost from sales of Act One could help propel the development forward. Both the episodic format and the Act One release date were revealed in a brand-new trailer that you can check out below.

In Ambrosia Sky, you take on the role of a Scarab named Dalia, a field scientist on assignment in deep space. While her official job is pursuing the key to human immortality, she spends most of her days cleaning up the alien fungi that has overtaken the region she’s working in, killing everyone that was unable to escape. Now, she washes away the fungi and lays the dead to rest. It’s like PowerWash Simulator in space — and there’s a lot more death to contend with.

The end result looks like a surprisingly heartwarming game. You’re spending quiet moments focused on cleaning as the story unfolds, which is exactly what we love about PowerWash Simulator. The added element of communing with the dead and laying them to rest, while also confronting your own past, will hopefully make Act One stand out during a crowded period for game releases.

Whatever the case, you don’t have to wait until Nov. 10 to get an idea of what to expect from Ambrosia Sky. The demo is available for Windows PC on Steam as we speak.
