Animatronic dragon catches on fire at Disneyland

An animatronic dragon caught fire at Disneyland Park in California on Saturday night, according to Disney officials.

“During the final screening of ‘Fantasmic’ at Disneyland Park Saturday night, a dragon caught fire,” a Disney official told CNN in an email. and the fire was extinguished.”

They added that all cast members and guests have been evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island, and attractions near the island are vacant due to smoke and wind.

“At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation,” the statement continued.

CNN has reached out to Anaheim Fire & Rescue for more information.

“Fantasmic” is a long-running nighttime Disney show at the company’s parks in Florida and California. The show features “special effects, state-of-the-art projections, stunning fireworks” and “Maleficent as a 45-foot fire-breathing dragon.” According to Disney’s site.
