Ariana DeBose had the internet ablaze after presenting the award for Male Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture at the 2025 Golden Globe awards.

While stepping in front of the camera with Everything Everywhere All at Once actor Ke Huy Quan, DeBose began the segment by making a confused face and seemingly freezing for a few seconds before speaking in a different voice.

Nikki Glaser, there were so many great movies this year,” she said, which earned a laugh from her co-presenter. After seemingly breaking character, DeBose added, “You’re welcome,” before delving into her and Quan’s piece.

“So, fun fact. He won his Golden Globe in this very ballroom on television,” she continued. “And I won mine from the comfort of a New York laundry room during COVID. It was a very wholesome, perspective given experience. Truly.”

Fans were quick to react to DeBose’s skit, with one social media user asking if she was “OK” after her segment. Another said, “Did she shade Nikki Glaser?” to which another social media responded, “The teleprompter wasn’t working. She read Nikki’s last line as a hint that her lines weren’t showing.”

While it seems likely—but is unclear—if the teleprompter caused the mishap, other social media users praised DeBose for her presenting skills.

“Ariana DeBose grabbed Ke Huy Quan’s cheek while they were presenting and honestly [I don’t know] if it was part of the script or not but she is very real for that!!!!” wrote one X (formerly Twitter) user. Another said, “I love Ariana DeBose!”

Though DeBose was not in the running for any awards at this year’s ceremony, she took home the Golden Globe in 2022 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in West Side Story.
