CASTING CALL
A KILLING SNOW (Equity and Non-Equity)
By Paul Ciufo
Directed by Tara Beagan

ENGAGEMENT COMPANY AND OUTSIDE DATES
Vertigo Theatre (Calgary) – rehearsals begin February 17, 2026; opens March 19, 2026; closes April 12, 2026.

PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION
Four strangers take shelter in Gerald Goldie’s secluded farmhouse during a Huron County blizzard. As they wait out the storm, frightening Latin phrases begin to appear on the walls and it becomes clear that there is murder on someone’s mind. The stranded guests have a choice – escape the house of terror and face death in the blizzard, or tempt the Fates by remaining. What would you do?

This rural, suspense-packed whodunnit by Canadian playwright Paul Ciufo will have audiences guessing throughout, in a play that evokes as much mysticism as it does mystery.

ROLES TO BE CAST

ALENA PETR Female Presenting able to play 60
Ambitious & articulate. “Fashionable.” Academically intelligent. PhD. University professor of classics. Lives on the lake. Prone to being a bit superior. A mother of distanced adult children. 3-time divorcee. Put herself through school. Has romantic and competitive history with Gerald.

LIBBY Female Presenting able to play 58-59

CALLIE RUTLEDGE Female Presenting able to play 28
“Brainy.” Defensive. Academically & behaviourally intelligent. Ex-pat, now living in Toronto, still has working-class family in Huron County. Sardonic humour. Master’s student of classics.

JACK VAN BAKEL Male Presenting able to play mid-late 20s
Devil-may-care. Outwardly confident. Works hard, plays hard. Full time farmer and sometimes model. Prone to colloquialisms. Practical intelligence. Local to Huron County. “Just folks” style humour. Deliberately undercuts his own smarts so he will be underestimated.

GERALD GOLDIE Male Presenting able to play 60
Surly intelligence. Former teacher (no PhD) known to be hard on students. Local to the area. Prone to condescension. Not into socializing. Romantic history with Alena, and resentful of her academic success. Romantic history with Libby and not proud of how their relationship ended.
