Diaspora Diaries Collective, in partnership with Common Ground Arts Society and Mile Zero Dance, is seeking actors for the upcoming production of Ecos. This new work will be performed at the Mile Zero Dance Warehouse.

About the Show
Amaya is an immigrant, a daughter of immigrants, and a granddaughter of immigrants. She hasn’t been there for most of her family’s biggest moments. But now, after missing out on a funeral and receiving life-changing news, she has to decide if that is the future she wants for herself and her new family. How did those who came before decide to leave everything that they knew behind? Did they ever regret their decision? And how can she find out when most of them are now gone? But the veil is thin, and sometimes, all you need to have your questions answered is ask.

Character descriptions:
Amaya: Early 30s, bilingual role (Spanish/English), female identifying. Amaya is indecisive, and a people pleaser. An expert at hiding her emotions, until it is too late and she lashes out. She has just found out that her life is about to change, and that she is at a crossroads, where a choice has to be made.

Eli: All ages, bilingual role (Spanish/English), all genders. Eli is fearless, they will say what they think, and not hold back, regardless of whether it hurts others (or themselves). Eli will protect those they love, but will not refrain from calling them out on their BS as needed.

Dancer: All ages, English, male-identifying. A professional ballroom dancer. He lives, loves and communicates through dance. Must be comfortable with movement and dance choreography.

Kenneth: All ages (his story in the script spans from early 20s to late 60s), Scottish (English speaking role), male-identifying. Kenneth is passionate, stern and formal, but driven forward by his heart. With a streak of rebellion, being fuelled relentlessly forward for his need for perfection. Must be comfortable with movement and dance choreography.

Patricia: All ages (his story in the script spans from early 20s to late 60s), British (English speaking role), female-identifying. Patricia is as deep as the roots of the trees in her hometown in England. But she is quiet. Her thoughts are only shared with those who she lets in deep enough. Must be comfortable with movement and dance choreography.

Mechita: Mid 20s to mid 40s, Mere and Manolo’s daughter, grew up in Argentina (Spanish speaking role), female identifying. Strong and resilient, she is not afraid to have her own thoughts and express them accordingly. Grew up in a culture full of “machismo” but never bowed down to it, or was broken by it. David’s wife.

David: Mid 20s to mid 40s, Patricia and Kenneth’s son who grew up in Mexico (English speaking role), male-identifying. He’s currently lost. David wants to do what is best for his family, but he has stopped knowing what that is supposed to be. Mechita’s husband.

Mere: All ages (her story in the script spans from her early 20s to late 50s), from a small town in Spain (Spanish speaking role). Has been pushed around by her lack of opportunities and power, but has remained staunch in her resolve to protect and uplift those she loves. A constant, a rock. Manolo’s wife.

Manolo: All ages (his story in the script spans from his early 20s to late 50s), from a small town in Spain (Spanish speaking role). Deeply sensitive, and too good for his own good. Has always put everyone’s needs above his, and has been seriously hurt because of it. Mere’s husband.

We strongly encourage submissions from performers who identify as Latine, consider themselves a part of the diaspora, and/or who are bilingual (Spanish/English). As well as performers who are comfortable with movement-based acting and/or who have dance experience. For more information, please contact: marina.mair.sanchez@gmail.com
