From the team that brought you Soup & Hogan’s 16th Annual Hot-Dog Eating Contest, Top Bunk Theatre is seeking performers for their upcoming production of their original musical, Sam’s Clam & Oyster Bar to be put on at the 2025 Edmonton Fringe Festival! We are looking for performers who can sing, pretend to love clams, can deliver the giggles, and all around have a positive mental attitude about life. Bring whatever makes you uniquely YOU as a performer into the audition room. All are welcome!

REHEARSALS: June – August, specific dates and times decided after casting

SYNOPSIS: After the death of his grandfather, Sam inherits his failing oyster bar in the landlocked town of Salmon, Idaho. The business is in shambles; the bartender, Pearl, can’t mix a drink to save her life, the restaurant’s seafood supplier has abandoned ship, and Sam’s rival, Cam, is closing in on buying the place. Sam is conflicted, does he close down shop, or will he continue his grandfather’s legacy as the proud owner of ‘Sam’s Clam & Oyster Bar’?

CHARACTERS

SAMSON “SAM” TRAUT IV (18-30, Baritenor): Meek, conflicted, and lost. Sam is searching for his path in life, and yearns for stability and meaning. Strong tap skills encouraged, must be comfortable playing opposite a female romantically.

PEARL JAMBOREE (18-30, Mezzo-soprano): Ambitious, kind, and witty. Pearl is the sole bartender at the oyster bar, who dreams for a brighter future for the business; and maybe for her and Sam. Must be comfortable playing opposite a male romantically.

CAMBRIDGE “CAM” HAMILTON (20-50): Sleezy, boisterous, and just straight up mean. Cam runs “Cam’s Ham & Clam Hamlet”, the far more successful rival clam shop, and makes sure everyone knows he runs this town. Must be able to do the Foghorn Leghorn voice, and comfortable with sexually suggestive content.

ENSEMBLE (18-64, any vocal type): Ensemble members will play multiple small roles throughout the show. Characters include: Grandpa Sam, Line Cook Benny, Polly the Seagull, Long Armed Stan, and many more.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Please prepare a comedic monologue (1-2 minutes, does not need to be memorized) and a cut of a song (1-2 minutes, either acapella or with a backing track. A speaker will be provided). You will also be asked to do a cold read. A line reader will be present for you to play off of. Your slot will be ten minutes long, starting with your prepared piece, followed by a cold read, and finishing with a short interview.
