About the play
The Tamer Tamed, also known as The Woman’s Prize, is the 1611 Jacobean sequel to William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.
Kate has died and Petruchio has just married his second wife, Maria, known as a modest and tender maiden. Unbeknownst to him, Maria has a plan to rehabilitate Petruchio’s tempestuous temper, starting with refusing their wedding bed and escalating to tricks and tactics of greater heights. Meanwhile, Maria’s sister, Livia, needs to find a way to marry her love, Rowland, instead of her father’s approved (and much older) suitor, Moroso. The result is a hilarious battle of the sexes that boasts a message far ahead of its time, and a thrilling ride on the way there.
