AUDITION NOTICE
Tough Guy
Submission Deadline June 12, 2025
Written by Hayley Moorhouse / Directed by Brett Dahl
Produced by Persistent Myth Productions, as part of Edmonton Fringe Theatre’s Mainstage season
Persistent Myth Productions is honoured to be operating in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton, AB), a traditional meeting ground and home of the First Nations, including the Treaty signatories – Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stony and Cree-Iroquois – as well as other Indigenous peoples, such as the Blackfoot and Métis, all of whom are stewards of this land. We extend our appreciation for the opportunity to live, create and perform on this territory.
— ABOUT THE SHOW —
Tough Guy follows a group of friends as they navigate the aftermath of a shooting at Aria, a queer nightclub. They’re all nursing wounds, visible and invisible, and are thrown into further turmoil when their friend Emerson, a rising star in the independent film scene, comes back home to film a documentary about the shooting.
— CASTING BREAKDOWN —
QUINN: They/Them, an AFAB non-binary person, 20s. An amateur boxer. Guarded, simmering, with a biting sense of humor. Was present at the Aria shooting, survived uninjured. Strong movement and some familiarity with boxing is an asset.
EMERSON: She/Her, a trans woman, 20s. A student in film school, and Quinn’s best friend. Careful, compassionate, and a bit obsessive – a party girl who decided to grow up. Was not present at the shooting.
JAMIE: She/Her, 20s. Had a repressive religious upbringing, was just beginning to embrace her queerness with confidence when she was killed during the Aria shooting. Quick-witted, empathetic and charming, the glue of the group.
Gender and sexual identity is an important aspect of Tough Guy. We are committed to bringing queer and gender-diverse characters to life with authenticity and respect. While we welcome submissions from all interested performers, we kindly encourage applicants to consider if they self-identify with the gender and sexuality of the character they’re applying for.
