With hundreds of performing artists, intricate sets and decor, and a beautiful natural backdrop, B.C.’s iconic Shambhala Music Festival is well worth the visit. While tickets are currently sold out for this year’s fest, there’s a way to gain free entry that also lands you a summer job. The 26th annual festival is hiring a mix of staff and volunteer positions, and all get to attend the festival for free.

According to their website, paid positions work daily or nightly throughout the festival in eight- to 12-hour shifts. Those who apply can specify their teams of interest, which include roles at the beverage kiosks, retail, security, finance, hospitality (back of house), kitchen, stagekeepers, ice sales, tech support, ticket gate, and more.

Applicants can also specify whether they have work experience as managers or supervisors, should the need arise.

“Shambhala Crew are the backbone of our festival,” say organizers. “Together, we build, maintain, and celebrate the extraordinary experience that brings thousands of people together.”

Those looking for less of a time commitment who still want to enjoy this year’s festival and help make it a success can apply to volunteer.

In addition to free early entry, staff members get exclusive SMF swag, access to Crew Camping spots, and a minimum of one meal per shift.

Finally, there are 10 longer-term and permanent positions available at the Shambhala Festival site:

  • Advanced Drone Pilot
  • Buyer
  • Lodging Crew
  • Cook
  • Bathroom Manager & Assistant Manager
  • Mechanic
  • Food & Beverage Outlet Manager
  • Supervisors
  • Catering Coordinator
  • Production Dispatcher

Note that all positions scheduled between Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 29, 2025, are considered “Showtime” positions and take place during the festival.

If you’re volunteering for the first time, there is a refundable Volunteer Deposit of $600 to ensure that volunteers complete the shifts they committed to. After all shifts are completed, first-time volunteers get their deposit back and will no longer have to pay in the future.

The festival takes place at the Salmo River Ranch in Salmo, B.C., from July 25 to 28, 2025.
