Beyond the Gates’ creator Michele Val Jean has been crafting stories in the daytime landscape for decades, now the Daytime Emmy Award Winning head writer has taken to social media to share a rare bit of history with one of her leading men.

Taking to her X profile, Val Jean posted a photo of herself and actor Jon Lindstrom from their time on General Hospital. Captioning the photo, “Boy were we young 😂 @thejonlindstrom #BeyondTheGates #BTG #GH”.

Linstrom reposted the photo with the caption, “I’m confused. Why am I tagged on this post. Who are these people? 😂❤️.” He then posting on Instagram, “Good God, Michele, talk about raiding the archive! WOW, what a journey!! ❤️💥 @michelevaljean@beyondthegatescbs#BTG”, to which Val Jean responded “I know! A couple of crazy kids. And we’re still here. Still crazy after all these years. 😍”

Lindstrom played the roles of serial killer Ryan Chamberlain and his identical twin brother Kevin Collins on General Hospital and its spinoff Port Charles from 1992 until 2024.  Currently Lindstrom plays Joey Armstrong on Beyond the Gates.

Michele Val Jean began her career in daytime on Generations  in 1989 and has since worked on Santa Barbara, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful , and Port Charles before creating Beyond the Gates.

Beyond The Gates, developed and produced by CBS Studios / NAACP venture in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter and Gamble, is the ground-breaking first hour long black soap opera to premiere in daytime. The creation is the brainchild of award-winning showrunner Michele Val Jean and Sheila Ducksworth, and the first new soap opera to premiere since NBC debuted Passions back in 1999.

CBS officially describes Beyond the Gates as a soap opera that is “set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.“

Beyond the Gates was renewed for a second season, confirming that the series will run throughout 2026.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS at 2 p.m. ET, and streams weekdays on Paramount+.
