BIXI, Montreal’s popular bike-sharing service is launching ahead of schedule this year — and it’s rolling out with a record-breaking expansion.

According to a BIXI press release issued on March 31, the 2025 season will see the addition of 1,600 new bikes, including a total of 3,200 electric bikes, and more than 130 new stations across Quebec. This expansion marks the largest in BIXI’s history.

Four new cities — Sherbrooke, Saint-Eustache, Deux-Montagnes, and Saint-Lambert — will officially join the BIXI network this summer. Meanwhile, significant growth is happening closer to Montreal, with Laval nearly tripling its number of stations from 26 to 75 and Longueuil completing its three-year expansion by adding 22 more stations.

Montreal itself will also benefit from denser network coverage and the continuation of BIXI’s year-round service, which is now permanent following a successful pilot project. Winter biking has been especially popular, with 27% more trips recorded this past winter compared to the year before. According to BIXI, 63% of users said they ride year-round to save time, and 61% had already used a winter BIXI — nearly double the number from last year.

The full BIXI network — including Montreal, Westmount, Mont-Royal, Montreal East, Longueuil, Laval, Boucherville, Terrebonne, Sainte-Julie, and more — is expected to be fully operational by April 15. New stations are already being installed and stocked as of this week.

BIXI’s seasonal membership is available now for $112 until May 31. It includes unlimited 45-minute rides on mechanical bikes and discounts on e-bikes until November 15. A monthly membership is also available for $23, with similar perks. Members also gain access to the AMI BIXI rewards program, which includes exclusive events and partner discounts.
