Blue Jays put Ryu and White on injured list

Pitchers Hyun Jin Ryu and Mitch White have been placed on Toronto’s injured list as the Blue Jays finalize their Day One roster.

As Ryu continues to recover from the Tommy John surgery he underwent on June 18th, he was placed in IL for 15 days retroactively to March 27th.

White was also placed on a 15-day IL backdated to March 27 due to inflammation in his right elbow.

Toronto kicked off the season in St. Louis on Thursday with Game 1 of a three-game interleague series against the Cardinals.

Last season, Ryu started 6 games for the Blue Jays, recording 2 wins, 0 losses, 5.67 earned runs, and 16 strikeouts.

The 36-year-old Korean pitcher withdrew from the starting lineup shortly after hitting 1,000 innings against the Chicago White Sox on June 2 and was later diagnosed with an ulnar collateral ligament injury.

White was predicted to be Toronto’s fifth starting pitcher or long-inning reliever this season.

The 28-year-old White went 1-7 with the Blue Jays last year, posting a 5.45 ERA and striking out 78 in 99 innings pitched.
