The town of Bradford West Gwillimbury in south-central Ontario plans to rename the park in honor of the late Const. Devon Northrup was killed while on duty late last year.
The decision to rename the park was made in a meeting-wide council committee on Tuesday.
Formerly known as Middletown Park at 140 Langford Blvd., the park will be renamed Constable Devon Northrup Memorial Park in an official spring ceremony.
Mayor James Leduc said: “We look forward to creating a permanent tribute to celebrate Constable Northrup’s life and commemorate his dedication to public service.
“We will continue to work closely with the Northrup family and look forward to an official announcement in the spring.

At approximately 7:55 PM on October 11, 2022, officers received a report of a disturbance at a home located in the area of 25th Side Road and 9th Street.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the state’s police oversight agency, said there was a “shootout” between the man and officers in the home.
South Simcoe Constables Morgan Russell and Devon Northrup and two officers identified by police were later confirmed dead.
The park’s renaming came after the town of Innisfil renamed the South Innisfil Community Center to the Morgan Russell Memorial Arena and Community Center in Russell’s honor.
Town officials said details of the park’s renaming ceremony will be made public as soon as they are ready.
