A gunman in Midland has killed at least one person and injured as many as 10 others as part of an active shooting that officials said has turned into a standoff.

What we know:

According to Midland officials, the incident is unfolding near the corner of Industrial Avenue and Wall Street.

KMID/KPEJ, the FOX affiliate in the West Texas town, reported that multiple shots have been fired.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong said the gunman is now contained by officers and that SWAT has been called to the scene.

“Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing,” officials wrote in the post.

A representative of the Midland County Sheriff’s Office said they didn’t have anyone who could speak with FOX Local at this time.

A spokesperson for the neighboring Ector County Sheriff’s Office said they could only confirm that they are assisting Midland police with an active-shooting situation.

What they’re saying:

“At this time, public safety personnel are actively responding, and we ask the public to avoid the area until further notice,” city officials wrote in a Facebook post.

Officials said a family unification center has been set up at Midland Memorial Hospital. People with questions loved ones are encouraged to call 432-631-4689.

What we don’t know:

The identity of the gunman has not yet been released.
