Brian Mulroney recovering from cancer: sources

Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney is recovering from prostate cancer, a source close to him confirmed to CTV News.

Mulroney, 84, underwent treatment in Montreal last fall and is now nearly fully recovered and doing well, CTV News said.

Canada’s 18th Prime Minister, Mulroney led successive Progressive Conservative majority governments from 1984 to 1993.

In recent years he has provided guidance and perspective on the state of federal politics and conservative movements.

In September, he praised Queen Elizabeth II at a national memorial service held at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa.

A companion to the Order of Canada, Mulroney has received numerous awards for his leadership and service to Canada.

according to To the Canadian Cancer Society, Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in men in Canada, and the association estimates that 67 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the country every day.
