Bunkhouse Hotels has officially opened its first hotel in Houston, Hotel Saint Augustine, situated in the Montrose neighborhood. The hotel, developed by The Marchbanks Company, is spread across 2.2 acres and offers 71 rooms and suites, a restaurant, an event space, a lounge, and a heated pool.
The hotel’s name draws inspiration from various sources, including the patron saint of printing due to its proximity to the Menil Drawing Institute, one of Houston’s cofounders Augustus Chapman Allen, and the Saint Augustine grass found throughout the city.
The interior design, fashioned by Post Company, pays homage to Houston’s artistic heritage, taking cues from the spirit of the museum district and the city itself. The minimal artwork throughout the hotel complements its location adjacent to the Menil Collection campus.
The hotel houses a restaurant, Perseid, led by notable Houston chef Aaron Bludorn. The menu is a fusion of Texas Gulf Coast flavors and French-inspired elements. Augustine Lounge and Listening Room, located within the hotel’s lobby, serves breakfast, has an all-day menu, and has a full bar.
Hotel Saint Augustine contains 71 varied room types, each featuring playful furnishings and finish details. The architecture by Lake|Flato and landscape architecture by Ten Eyck ensure the hotel blends seamlessly into the neighborhood’s residential character.
As part of Bunkhouse Hotels’ expansion, the company plans to open Hotel Daphne in the Houston Heights neighborhood and the first Jo’s Coffee outside of Austin later this year. The starting room rates at Hotel Saint Augustine start at $429 per night.
