‘Busier than Christmas’: Family Day provides boost to Big White in Okanagan – Okanagan

After more than 30 centimeters of snow fell on Big White Ski Resort on Sunday night, many powder enthusiasts spent their family day on the slopes.
“It doesn’t get much better than this,” says skier Keegan Bossens.
“Today, we like it because it has almost a foot of fresh flavor on top.”
For some, it has become a tradition to travel to the Okanagan and spend this legal holiday with their loved ones in Big White.

Snowboarder Matteo Torres said, “Oh, it’s a great atmosphere.”
“I do this every Family Day weekend. Come here with friends and family and have three good days at Big White.”
Over the past two years, Big White’s Family Day weekend has been a little different. Restrictions due to COVID-19 and massive flooding in British Columbia in 2021 have hampered out-of-town travel plans. So, overall, there are fewer tourists and fewer people, but this year things are finally back to normal.
“This will be the busiest ten days of the season,” explained Big White Senior Vice President Michael J. Ballingall.

“It’s busier than Christmas or New Year’s, it’s just a marketer’s dream. There are a lot of happy, happy people here today.”
According to Ballingall, busy weekends not only boost the resort’s economy, but have a positive impact on the central Okanagan as a whole.
“We’ve been full here in the mountains for about a month and a half now, so many of the hotels and Airbnbs in the valley are starting to fill up,” he said.
“There are a lot of people coming to the resort for the first time from Vancouver and Washington state.
Big White’s Alpine Snow Base is currently at 245 cm, with another 3-6 cm of snow expected Monday night.
