Swamp Rat Experience, a non-profit community theatre, is producing The Lion and the Jewel written by Wole Soyinka at King Street Theatre (9803 King Street, Fort McMurray, AB) culminating in three performances February 19, 20 and 21, 2026, including a talk-back session.
All Swamp Rat Experience productions, events, and programs shall be conducted in accordance with safety protocols, mutual respect, and in the spirit of reconciliation.
Role as the Set & Props Designer
Responsible for designing, sourcing, building, and maintaining all scenic elements and props that support the production’s period, cultural context, and the specific requirements and limitations of the venue.
Key Responsibilities
● Design a cohesive scenic concept
● Create detailed plans, and prop lists
● Collaborate closely with the Director, other Designers, and the Technical Team
● Supervise construction and prop builds
● Organize prop tracking, storage, and cue-ready placement for performances
● Attend rehearsals and tech rehearsals and adapt designs as required
Commitment and Schedule
Work period includes design meetings, tech week, and all rehearsals as required; attendance at a minimum of weekly production meetings during the design and build phases and full availability for tech rehearsals, performances, and for strike post-show.
Compensation
Honorarium (including GST): $1,000
Materials budget provided.
