Have a big Canadian bucket list? From coast to coast, the Great White North has some incredible places to see firsthand, but Magnetic Hill in New Brunswick is a magical must-visit for skeptics and open-minded travellers alike.

Why Magnetic Hill is so… magnetic

One of the oldest tourist attractions in the province, this unusual destination has left many scratching their heads.

Here, cars actually appear to roll uphill, and as you can imagine, it’s a feeling unlike any other.

Located 15 minutes from Moncton, the world-famous hill has been described as a “naturally provocative mystery”— but there’s a simpler explanation than you might expect.

What’s happening here?

According to the Science Teachers’ Association of Ontario, Magnetic Hill is just an optical illusion.

While it feels supernatural, New Brunswick’s incredible landmark is actually a gravity hill — a place where sloped terrain creates the appearance of an object rolling upwards.

Of course, this doesn’t make driving along the road any less exciting.

“Drive to the bottom of this world-famous hill, shift into neutral, and be prepared to be amazed,” Tourism New Brunswick writes.

“Stories about Magnetic Hill have been around since the early 1800s, and this wondrous place has been puzzling visitors for decades.”

Interested in making the trip? It’s closed in the winter, and depending on when you visit, you may have to pay $7 per car or $55 per bus.

Of course, after you visit, there’s so much more to the area!

If you’re among those looking for adventure, you can also visit the zoo, the nearby winery and Magic Mountain, an amusement park with rides, a mini golf course, and Atlantic Canada’s largest waterpark.

There’s really no shortage of cool things to experience, so check it out.

Enjoy and happy rolling.
