The very first Canadian outpost of RIU Hotels is just months away from welcoming its first guests in downtown Toronto later this year.
The Spain-based luxury hotel and resort brand has stated that it will open its 350+ room Hotel RIU Plaza Toronto in late 2025, over six years after the location was first announced.
Built into the lower levels of the two-tower Theatre District Residence complex’s north tower at 30 Widmer Street, the hotel will not be a standalone property, but will instead become the latest accommodation to open as part of a combined condo and hotel development in the Entertainment District.

Hotel RIU Plaza Toronto joins a trend of coupling hotels with condo developments that has brought many new landmarks to the city in recent years, including One King West, the St. Regis Hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Toronto and, most recently, the TOOR Hotel.

In addition to in-room Wi-Fi, hotel guests will have access to a 24-hour gym, complimentary buffet breakfasts and a lobby bar, among other amenities like a meeting room for business travellers.

No official opening date for the hotel has been provided as of March 2025.

When the hotel was initially announced back in 2019, RIU stated that it would be opening the new location by 2021. Four years later — a period that included pandemic-related labour challenges and a massive decline in the hotel industry — construction continues on the project.

However, construction of the complex’s 49- and 48-storey towers appears to be closing in on completion, and an opening date will likely be shared in the coming months as finishing touches are installed within the complex.
