You won’t have to go far to experience the “prettiest town in Canada.” Goderich, Ontario, sits on the shores of Lake Huron, a spot where visitors can enjoy the scenic shores, forested trails, and an award-winning downtown.

Sounds too good not to check out for yourself.

If you’re driving to Goderich, it will take you around three hours from Toronto/The GTA. The area sits between two other coastal towns, Grand Bend and Kincardine, and you can start your day by checking out the downtown scene.

Downtown Goderich has everything you need for a cute little day trip, including bakeries, cafes, restaurants, accessory stores, art galleries, and yoga studios.

Courthouse Square is part of Canadian Heritage Architecture, a stunning spot to stop while you’re walking around. Courthouse Square features a weekly farmers’ market and outdoor concerts during the summer, and in the colder months, houses outstanding restaurants and cafes.

Around the downtown core, some local food favourites include Cait’s Cafe, East Street Cider Co., Cork & Coast, and West Street Willy’s.

From Courthouse Square, it’s a short walk along West Street to the waterfront of Lake Huron.

Now that you’re close to the water, you have eight different trails to choose from! Yep, Goderich, Ontario has multiple trails in this area, including a boardwalk and a forested path. While these trails are mostly utilized in the summer, they’re still open as long as conditions are safe in the winter.

I recommend making a weekend out of your visit, and there are a handful of places you can stay. If you want to be right in the heart of the town (near Courthouse Square), then the Bedford Hotel is your best option. My personal favourite is Colborne Bed and Breakfast. Also near Courthouse Square, this brick mansion with gorgeous stained-glass windows dates to 1890, and it will give you all the cozy feelings.

Time to check visiting the “prettiest town in Canada” off your bucket list.
