What to do in Medicine Hat, Alberta

Located approximately three hours from Calgary, this southern spot gets around 330 days of sun a year, making it Canada’s sunniest city—according to Tourism Medicine Hat.

Described as an “attractive year-round playground,” this particular destination was established as a railway town, and later was renowned for being Alberta’s “Gas City”… but it’s so much more than that!

From giant murals to vast green spaces, Medicine Hat has a little something for everyone—especially if you enjoy fresh air.

“Our city is rich in local history and unique attractions, from the 20-story high Saamis Tepee, Medalta in the Historic Clay District, the historic downtown with over 200 shops (five independent coffee shops included), to the state-of-the-art Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre,” they write.

“You’ll find over 100 parks and 155 kilometres of walking & biking trails throughout the city, as well as three local breweries, southeast Alberta’s largest shopping mall, casino, and full-service camping facilities.”

In addition, visitors will also be within a short distance of iconic Alberta spots such as Dinosaur Provincial Park, Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park, and the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology.
