In a sign the impending trade war between Canada and the United States is about to get ugly, fans at an NHL hockey game last night roundly booed the American national anthem.

The incident took place prior to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s speech announcing retaliatory tariffs abut after U.S. President Donald Trump had already signed an executive order imposing 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian products beginning Tuesday, Feb. 4th.

The NHL game in question was between the Ottawa Senators and the Minnesota Wild at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.

Canadian singer Madia pressed through the Star Spangled Banner to its conclusion despite the negative reaction from the fans.

The Ottawa Senators won the game 6-0.

Outrage among Canadians to the U.S. tariffs is expected to be strong, especially in the wake of Trudeau’s well-received “Team Canada” speech on Saturday evening.

Already, Ontario has come out with additional counter-measures as Premier Doug Ford announced on Sunday morning that the LCBO will removing all American products from store shelves this Tuesday.
