Amid rising tensions from the United States-Canada trade war, Canadians are hitting where it hurts — by signing a petition to cut off Americans’ access to Pornhub.

Marc Olimpo launched the petition on March 7, stating that the tariff dispute between Canada and the U.S. has affected various sectors of the economy. As a result, they’re proposing a new approach.

“This petition urges the Canadian Federal government to enact legislation restricting Pornhub’s services, primarily adult content streaming, from being accessed within the United States,” reads the statement. “This potential ban could send a strong message and provoke introspection of the current tariff measures in place.”

Pornhub is a leading adult online entertainment website that’s based in Canada and was launched in 2007.

The petition urges Ottawa to take action as the “livelihoods of many depend on the resolution of this conflict.”

It also has a message for Canadians: “By signing this petition, you are not only advocating for fair trade practices but also drawing attention to the power dynamics in the digital age. It’s time to raise our voices for change.”

According to Pornhub’s 2024 Year in Review report, Americans made up the highest number of visitors — well above France, which came in second, and the Philippines, which came in third. On average, viewers in the U.S. spent 10 minutes and 37 seconds on the site.

Currently, Pornhub is already blocked in 17 U.S. states due to Age Verification laws. The law requires users to prove that they’re 18 years or older to view adult content by providing an ID such as a driver’s licence. However, the company argues that submitting private information to adult sites creates a risk of identity theft.

Around 650 people have signed the petition as of Monday.

“This is an idea so funny it would be a shame to be supported,” wrote one person.

Another stated, “We need a radical groin punch to the U.S. and their threats to our sovereignty.”

One Redditor said, “We’re all collateral damage in this trade war.”

“Alright, sh*t just got serious,” stated one commenter. And yet another: “When you control the porn, you control the world.”

Pornhub did not reply to a request for comment by the time of publication.
