Days of Our Lives may have just revealed to viewers that Johnny didn’t shoot his father E.J. but the drama isn’t slowing down for his portrayer Carson Boatman. The actor recently shared his perspective on the father-son relationship, his thoughts on his popular romantic pairing, and teased what’s next for the legacy character.

Boatman recently was interviewed by Women’s Worldwhere he spoke about working with his on-screen wife Raven Bowens who portrays Chanel Dupree-Dimera.  The actor said, “I still get excited about seeing Raven, we have a lot of fun together.” He explained that they have “a very high level of respect and comfortability with each other. We also bicker like husband and wife.”

While it hasn’t been a smooth road to get there, as they were involved in a love triangle with his half-twin sister, Boatman is happy that fans love the pairing, sharing, “I’m so happy that Johnny and Chanel translate so well to audiences, It feels like they’re endgame to me… but that can change in about 15 seconds! All it takes is one script.”

Johnny is currently on trial for the attempted murder of his father E.J. Dimera. With his believing that his son could’ve done the horrific event, E.J. decided to frame his daughter-in-law Chanel for the shooting.

Discussing this twist Boatman shared, “EJ basically set up Johnny’s wife to take the fall for attempted murder, that’s a pretty crazy limb to go out on, right?”

But even with all of that said and done, Boatman isn’t writing off the potential for the father and son to rebuild their relationship. The actor explained, “No matter how tumultuous the relationship may be, there’s something about a father and a son, deep down, you always want that relationship and connection—even if you hate him and can’t forgive him for all the despicable things he’s done.”

Teasing what’s to come for his character Boatman said, “Johnny gets thrown right into another scandal, how’s it going to be any fun to watch if characters are having nice lives? You need scandal!”

Johnny will be reunited with members of his family this fall as the soap celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and in honor of this historic event Johnny’s brother Will (Chandler Massey), mother Sami (Alison Sweeney), and uncle Eric (Greg Vaughan) will all be returning to celebrate and honor the soap.

Days of our Lives streams weekdays on Peacock.
