Cary Elwes Still Looks Charming as Ever 38 Years After 'The Princess Bride'

Cary Elwes, who famously played the handsome and charming Westley opposite Robin Wright‘s Princess Buttercup in 1987’s The Princess Bride, proved just how ageless his good looks are during a recent screening of his new movie, Dead Man’s Wire.

On Dec. 10, the cult classic film actor arrived at the screening in New York City rocking his signature cheeky smile as he wore a chic outfit. Elwes had on an elegant gray and white tweed three-piece suit with a white button-up shirt underneath and a thin gray scarf on top.

Elwes looked relaxed as he posed for photos at the event, standing with his left hand in his pants pocket as he stared at the camera, his hair parted on the side and swooping over his head.

Also at the event were some other members of the cast, including Dacre Montgomery, Colmon Domingo, and Myha’la. There were a few key members of the cast who were missing at the event, such as Al Pacino and Bill Skarsgård.

The new movie is based on the true story of Tony Kiritsis, a man who, in 1977, went to the office of Richard Hall, his mortgage broker, and took him hostage after he wouldn’t give him more time to pay his mortgage.

Skarsgård plays Kiritsis, while Montgomery plays Hall. As for Elwes, he takes on the role of Michael Grable, a police officer who worked on the case.

In an interview with Indianapolis Monthly, Grable recalled an encounter with Kiritsis during the hostage situation when he approached him outside in the cold, asking him what he wanted.

“The temperature was minus-5 degrees, and Tony had a short-sleeved shirt on. Tony slipped on the ice and fell, taking Hall with him. It’s a wonder the gun didn’t go off,” he recounted. “If one of the two hadn’t fallen, Hall would have been killed right there.”

Dead Man’s Wire officially comes out in theaters on Jan. 9, 2026.
