Say goodbye to August with a final day of summer fun, all while celebrating our beautiful province in the process.

On Aug. 31, 2025, Calgary’s Heritage Park will celebrate Alberta Day with free admission and all sorts of family-friendly activities.

Alberta Day isn’t a stat, but it conveniently falls over Labour Day weekend. It’s meant to showcase the unique spirit of the Prairies while celebrating Alberta’s history, culture, and vibrant community. Here’s everything you can expect during the festivities.

Happy Alberta Day

Guests are welcome to arrive as early as 10 a.m., but the official opening ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the aptly named Celebration Field. From there, you can explore the heritage buildings in the Historic Village, visit the Tipis at the Park, and enjoy full access to the park’s historic areas and exhibits.

The day will also feature special offerings, like live music, cultural dance and entertainment, craft areas, local vendors, Indigenous storytelling in the afternoon, and more!

If you want to up the ante, take a scenic trip aboard the vintage steam train, enjoy rides on the antique midway, and cruise on the S.S. Moyie, Calgary’s only paddlewheel boat. The Antique Midway and S.S. Moyie require additional purchases, which can be made online in advance.

Evening festivities will continue from 5 p.m. onward, and Canadian country music star Jake Mathews is set to take the stage at 8 p.m. for a performance followed by an out-of-this-world aerial drone show.

Know before you go

It’s expected to be a busy day, which is why free shuttle buses will run regularly between Anderson LRT Station and Heritage Park. Because there’s limited on-site public parking, you’re best off to make use of the available transit options. You can also take MAX Teal and MAX Yellow for rapid transit lines to Heritage Park, and Route 20 for regular service.

The Historic Village will be open until 5 p.m., but additional Alberta Day programming will go until 9:30 p.m. Although it is a free event, you can secure your spots by registering online.
