Charges tied to death of Robert De Niro’s grandson

new york –
A woman has been arrested on federal drug charges for selling the drugs that led to the death of actor Robert De Niro’s 19-year-old grandson, law enforcement officials said Friday.
Sofia Haley Marks, 20, declined to be named because she was not authorized to say she was arrested Thursday by the New York City Police Department and federal drug enforcement officers on charges of selling drugs to Leandro De Niro Rodriguez. Arrested, according to law enforcement officials who spoke on condition that
Marks is scheduled to appear in federal court late Friday. There were no online booking records for Marks’ arrest on Friday, nor was she able to determine if she had a lawyer willing to represent her.
Rodriguez was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on July 2nd. A spokeswoman for the city’s coroner’s office said the cause of death is still under investigation.
Rodriguez’s mother, Drena De Niro, announced her son’s death on Instagram. In response to a question on her post, she wrote that her son died after “someone sold him fentanyl pills.”
Rodriguez was the son of Drena De Niro, the eldest son of Robert De Niro, and the artist Carlos Mere.
Like his famous grandfather, Rodriguez was an actor who starred alongside his mother in projects such as Bradley Cooper’s 2018 remake of A Star Is Born.
Robert De Niro said after Rodriguez’s death that he was ‘deeply saddened by the loss of his beloved grandson Leo’. A representative for him did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on the arrest.
