Conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was tragically assassinated on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. More than a week later, friends, family, supporters and political leaders are preparing to honor his life at a public memorial service.

Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed in what authorities are calling a targeted political attack. The investigation is ongoing, but officials have arrested Tyler Robinson in connection to the shooting.

“This is a dark day for our state. It’s a tragic day for our nation,” Utah Governor Spencer Cox said in a press statement following the assassination. “I want to be very clear this is a political assassination.”
