Our only “chalk” matchup in the division finals, The Passion of the Christ takes on another C. S. Lewis book adaptation in Prince Caspian. Mel Gibson’s retelling of the Passion has been one of the most dominant entries in our bracket so far, winning each of its matchups by a comfortable margin. But it faces its toughest challenge yet with Prince Caspian, which has proven to be a legitimate title contender in its own right.
Can Prince Caspian claim victory for Narnia? Or will The Passion of the Christ keep barreling toward the finals?
Luke Division Final: #1 Ben-Hur (1959) vs. #7 Courageous
Ben-Hur outlasted its Old Hollywood peers, The Ten Commandments and The Robe, to take its place in the Epic Eight. That’s no accident: It’s a classic for a reason and “comes with a deep, resonant storyline that points to how Christ can bring new life.” But its next challenger is eyeing an upset. Courageous, another beloved Kendrick Brothers’ film, barely fended off The Best Christmas Pageant Ever in its last matchup, but let’s not forget that in the previous round, it took down The Robe, this division’s 2-seed.
Will Courageous knock off another Old Hollywood epic? Or will Ben-Hur prove too much of a classic to overcome?
John Division Final: #1 The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe vs. #3 I Can Only Imagine
We love us some Chronicles of Narnia movies. And, evidently, none more so than the original. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has been the juggernaut of Christian Movie Madness so far, winning each of its matchups by huge margins. In the last round, it bested God’s Not Dead with only 79% percent of the vote—a meager amount by its standards. But I Can Only Imagine shouldn’t be overlooked. It hasn’t been as dominant as its opponent, but was a 3-seed for a reason, and has been quietly stacking wins in the John Division.
Can I Can Only Imagine envision toppling C. S. Lewis’ allegorical masterwork? Or will The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe take inspiration from Aslan and roar to victory?
