In an interview with People published on Dec. 13, Aiken spoke candidly about the state of his love life. “I just turned 46, and I have discovered I’m too old to change my ways for anybody. Unless I can find somebody who’s happy to sit on the other end of the couch and not talk for hours at a time, then I’m perfectly fine not having to deal with that,” he told the outlet.

Aiken also said “I just don’t have the energy” to change. “If there is a perfect soulmate for me out there, then he is perfectly happy to go for a full 24 hours in the same house, but not having to speak. That’s the dream,” he stated.

The single dad also admitted that if he were to find love, he’d hopefully be happy to “go live in a small town.”

Though Aiken does not currently have a romantic partner, a different partnership earlier this year got fan attention after it was revealed that Aiken and Ruben Studdard, who won first place on Aiken’s season of American Idol, had joined forces on The Masked Singer.

The two appeared on the reality singing competition series together as the Beets, ultimately getting eliminated just before the show’s quarterfinal.

They spoke to Parade about their experience on the show, noting that while they didn’t make it to the final round, it was a blessing in disguise. “I had sort of secretly hoped for it. Because we had a tour date coming up, and we had no breaks at all. We had to get to Alaska,” Aiken said.
