After multiple years on Netflix, and with the live-action Gundam film no longer moving ahead, a collection of class Gundam films will be leaving the Netflix library in June 2025.
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is one of the most beloved and influential fiction franchises from Japan. Over many decades the Gundam franchise is responsible for entertaining children’s and adults a like with hundreds of episodes of anime, lots of films, and a countless number of toys and video games. It is reported that by 2022 the franchise was generating ¥101.7 billion per year (approximately $700 million).

When will the Gundam film collection leave Netflix?
On June 18th, the following Gundam films will leave Netflix:
- Mobile Suit Gundam (1981)
- Mobile Suit Gundam 2: Soldiers of Sorrow (1981)
- Mobile Suit Gundam 3: Encounters in Space (1982)
- Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack (1988)
All four films leave the Netflix library after 49 months, after being added back in June 2021.
Why are the Gundam films leaving Netflix?
First of all, the license Netflix holds on the films is coming to an end, so unless they have an option to extend the license the last day you can watch them will be on June 17th, 2025.
Second of all, the reason why Netflix is unlikely to renew the license to stream the Gundam film collection likely has something to do with the fact that the Gundam live-action film is no longer going ahead at Netflix.
